Vector-mediated Gene Therapy and the Herpes Simplex Virus

The Herpes Simplex Virus has been identified as an ideal viral vector for use in gene therapy. Certain features of the Herpes Simplex Virus, such a as capacity to cause latent infections in neurons and an ability to infect the brain, make it a possible candidate for delivering gene therapies to the brain.
